Professional Education Services

The Chadwick Center offers accredited Professional Education to those involved in fields of prevention, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and prosecution of child abuse and family violence. Since its beginning in 1976, the Chadwick Center has trained more than 100,000 professionals from all fifty states and over forty countries.

Major educational activities include the annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment; the Clinical Training Program for visiting physicians, the weekly multidisciplinary Child Protection Team Case Conference, and various local, county, and state trainings funded through contracts.

San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment

Since 1986, our highly acclaimed conference has been held each January in San Diego. This five-day conference presents evidence-based best practices to multidisciplinary professionals working in the child and family maltreatment field. Our distinguished international faculty present best-practice skill-building workshops, inspiring plenaries, and thought-provoking forums on the following topic areas:

Clinical Training Program (CTP)

The Chadwick Center conducts customized training to address the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of child and family maltreatment onsite in San Diego or offsite around the world. CTP training, usually one to five days, offers topics including:

Medical Evaluation of child abuse
Conducting Forensic Evidentiary Interviews
Trauma Therapy including (but not limited to):
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Child Protection Team (CPT) Case Conference

Since 1976, a weekly two-hour case conference consisting of a multidisciplinary collaborative effort by those in law enforcement, child protection, mental and medical health, and the justice system, is held at the Chadwick Center. Recent and on-going child abuse cases are reviewed and discussed by members of CPT in a confidential environment.

San Diego Options for Recover - Substance Abuse/HIV Infant Foster Home Licensing Program

This program is funded by the County of San Diego. The Chadwick Center provides a five-day, thirty-hour training program four times a year. This training program is specifically for qualified foster parent caregivers, which is mandated by the Welfare and Institution Codes and California Department of Social Services.
