The Chadwick Center at Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego (RCHSD) and the Department of Pediatrics at University of California San Diego (UCSD) is offering a three year fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics.  Our program trains pediatricians to become medical experts in all areas of child abuse and neglect, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, psychological abuse and neglect and failure to thrive.  The fellowship provides comprehensive training and experience in clinical assessment, educational presentation skills and research skills for physicians who will pursue careers as clinicians, educators or researchers.

The Chadwick Center is committed to medical student and resident education with pediatric resident rotations for both UCSD and military residents, allowing the child abuse fellow opportunities for 1:1 teaching and didactic presentations.  Fellows are a part of a regional multidisciplinary team process and will participate in weekly MDT Case Reviews, attend weekly Peer Review, testify in court, train MDT partners and participate in statewide organizations and committees.  Fellows also participate in the planning and hosting of the annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment.

The fellowship program at RCHSD/UCSD is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and successful graduates are eligible for child abuse pediatrics boards certification administered by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The program is open to graduates of accredited pediatric residencies.

Applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).  The fellowship program reviews all completed applications and selects a pool of applicants that are invited to interview with our faculty in the summer of each year (typically July – October) for a Fall match.  One fellowship position is awarded annually through the NRMP for a term of 3 years.
